As adults we recognize how busy boys are between the ages of 10 and 18. There are many things competing for time – school, work, sports, family vacations, friends, music lessons, etc. but all of us have a responsibility to do our share to keep the troop running successfully and if we all follow through on that responsibility, our scouts and troop will continue to be successful into the future. Below is a formal written list of responsibilities that clearly outline what is expected from the Scouts in Troop 224 so everyone knows what is expected.
Scout Responsibilities:
Attend Meetings – If you can’t attend meetings, let your PL/SPL/ASPL/Scoutmaster know and if you have a responsibility (i.e. Scribe taking notes at the TLC/PLC) get a replacement.
Wear your full uniform and bring your Scout Handbook to all meetings/camping trips
Be prepared! Have the right equipment and attitude whether it is for camping, meetings or whatever, be prepared!
Follow through on all assignments. For leadership positions there are certain responsibilities and if a Scout wants credit for fulfilling that position, he must follow through on all assignments, for example, PL’s are expected to call their Patrol concerning meeting and camping updates. The SPL is expected to communicate information to the PL’s. All leaders are required to fill out Leadership Evaluation forms in a timely manner. Perfect attendance and involvement in all meetings and camping trips in not required, but an honest effort should be made to be active in the troop and fulfill your leadership duties. Failure to do so may result in having to repeat leadership positions to receive credit for rank advancement.
Review the Website! http://www.troop224.indianhead.org The website is our best tool for communicating important troop information. It is updated frequently and should be reviewed weekly – bookmark the site and review it at least once a week.
Read the monthly newsletter that is distributed after the TLC/PLC – make sure you share it with your parents so they know what’s going on. A lot of work goes into this newsletter and it contains specific information on upcoming activities for the month – read it and refer to it often. We will be putting a copy of the newsletter out on the website in case you lose your copy.
Live by the Scout Oath and Law. Do your best and expect the best from your fellow scouts.
